Study planning

Choose your Edexcel study route

Start with the specification code your school uses. Then choose the content and sittings that match your course.

Check the specification code

Mathematics A (4MA1) and Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1) are separate specifications. The separate sciences are Biology (4BI1), Chemistry (4CH1) and Physics (4PH1). Science (Double Award) (4SD0) and Science (Single Award) (4SS0) each combine three science strands in their own course.

Choose levels where they apply

Mathematics A has Foundation and Higher tiers. The IGCSE sciences are untiered: Paper 2-only sections are labelled, and students study both papers. IAL units show IAS or IA2; your qualification goal is IAS or full IAL.

Give each IAL unit its own sitting

You can plan WCH11 for January and WCH14 for June in the same timetable. Available series differ by specification and exam unit, so use the options in Profile. Countdown dates describe approximate planning windows; confirm actual paper dates with your school.

Assign shared maths units once

Choose the pure and applied units you plan to sit for Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Applied notes can support either qualification. Assign each shared exam-unit result to one planned qualification so the same notes appear once. Ask your teacher to confirm your award combination.

Compare confidence with practice

Rate checklist points as you learn, then compare your confidence with a quiz or self-marked written result. Section A quizzes appear in selected Chemistry, Physics and Economics IAL units. A quiz with fewer than five questions shows a score without a colour band. TeachAI questions are original exam-style practice resources.

Check your own course

Assessment details and command-term definitions are set by your subject guide and can change between guide editions. Check the guide for your examination session and follow your teacher’s advice. The methods and examples above are written by TeachAI.
